Work and Witness Team
Rebuilding New Orleans After
Katrina
Two years after Hurricane Katrina wreaked havoc on
New Orleans, a Work and Witness
team from Southwood
representing Compassionate Ministries, Nazarene Disaster
Response, spent five days working 10-hour shifts. They
were assigned to rebuild two
homes in the Gentilly neighborhood, which "had been under eight feet of
water for more
than three weeks."
The Nazarene Disaster Response organization has sent more
than 17,000 people to
New Orleans over the past two
years. The volunteers have raised more than $17 million,
gutted 1,000 homes, and reconstructed 686 homes and 37
city parks.
On this trip a highly skilled team of men installed
wood flooring, toilets and ceramic tile
floors, replaced
windows and doors, upgraded the electrical system, and
reconnected
gas lines.
