Children's Sunday School
We have Sunday School classes for children from birth to 12 years old.
Our Sunday School teachers are deeply committed and loving people who desire
to communicate God’s love to their students.
Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten
Upon leaving the church nursery at four years of age, children enter the
pre-kindergarten/ kindergarten class. Lessons are taught through the use of
puppets, coloring pages, and story boards. This class meets at 11:00 AM in
Room 102.
Primary Class
This class is our first and second graders. The class is taught by
Elaine Bogart and Stella Stillion. Elaine has been teaching Sunday School at
Southwood for over 30 years and is highly skilled in communicating God's
love to her children. Kids always love her class and she is deeply loved by
her students.
The First and Second Grade Class learns how to look up Bible references
according to the lesson being taught. They learn about people in the Bible
and how God worked through their lives and how God can and will work through
the lives of 1st and 2nd Graders. They play games to reinforce the lessons
being taught. Hands-on activities are planned. Story pages are sent home for
reinforcement as well. This class meets at 11:00 AM in Room 101.
“The CREW”
This class is for young people in the 3rd through 6th grade. Gunnar
Maxwell who has a special love for these children teaches the class. Gunnar
has been involved in Children's Ministries for over 10 years. This class
meets in room 101 at 9:30 AM each Sunday.
Pre-Teens are in the position of being neither a child nor a teen. This
class is designed to help the children navigate the time with grace and
confidence. The class often has activities of their own but from time to
time will be invited to join teens in activities that are appropriate for
this age group. The purpose of this is to help introduce the pre-teens to
the youth group in a way that is comfortable for them. Pre-teens who
are going into the 7th grade are promoted into the teen department at the
beginning of the summer after they complete the sixth grade. This allows
them to integrate into the teen department during the summer when there are
many opportunities to socialize.
